New technologies that accelerate sustainable solutions for cities and companies in the face of the energy crisis
The ecological transition has gone from being a path to follow to becoming the only solid ground in the face of a disproportionate rise in energy supply prices. To alleviate this situation, Edison Next offers options to optimize public lighting through the installation of LED lights, studies solutions to cut energy costs in industries through the installation of photovoltaic, biomass or hydrogen self-consumption and analyzes the energy efficiency of buildings to work on its improvement.
An energy crisis requires a technological solution and only one answer: the ecological transition. This is how it is perceived, at least, by the executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol: "There are more signs than ever that the new world energy economy is advancing strongly," he said in a statement issued on 22 September by the agency. Companies and cities also settle. No one is left behind in the climate emergency.
But Birol did not stop there and stated that the current global energy situation "could be a turning point towards a cleaner, more affordable and safer energy system". He stressed where humanity should turn to save the effects of climate change and those of Russia's war in Ukraine, the consequences of which are global, but which are especially noticeable in the European Union (EU), due to the rise in gas prices and after Russian supply cuts. To alleviate this situation there are Edison Next solutions.
Perhaps it is the optimistic part of the situation, if the words that the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, pronounced during the opening speech of the General Assembly are taken as a reference: "Climate action has taken a back seat," he reproached to the representatives of almost all the countries of the world gathered there.
Edison Next initiatives have prevented the emission of 42,000 tons of CO 2 into the atmosphere .
But it is still necessary to "redouble efforts" to move towards the horizon of net zero emissions planned for 2050 at the last climate summit. And even more so when countries like China or Germany are just two of the examples of how coal is making its way back as a fuel to ensure energy consumption. In fact, the IEA is almost certain that the demand for coal will continue to grow in the remainder of the year and, by 2023, it will break a new "historical maximum".
Spain is also facing a "complicated winter", as recognized by the Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera. Recently and out of fear that this station will take its toll on Europeans, the European Commission (EC) promoted the REPowerEU Plan, which is based on three pillars: save energy, produce it through clean sources and commit to diversifying supplies energetic.
Solutions
Among the short-term measures agreed are multiplying partnerships with "reliable" suppliers, also in renewables and low-carbon gases, but especially the "rapid" realization of solar and wind energy projects, combining them with the start-up of green hydrogen , for which the first projects on a European scale were already approved this summer.
With more than a thousand buildings with Internet of Things (IoT) technology, or the implementation of more than 460,000 low-consumption LED light points or presence sensors for lighting optimization, Edison Next combines solutions energy and economic savings with the use of state-of-the-art systems and technologies.
The company, thanks to its extensive experience in the sector and an investment of 300 million euros, has been able to adapt to the new energy scenario and is already offering alternatives that are showing their effectiveness in cities such as Bilbao, Malaga or Lleida with the public lighting project sustainable; or the support to more than thirty industries to optimize their consumption and minimize their carbon footprint with photovoltaic self-consumption solutions, biomass energy or hydrogen, among other technologies.
Alternatives for companies
While the industry as a whole asked the Government at the beginning of September for a decalogue of measures to weather the energy crisis, Edison Next already has efficient energy management systems through a digital platform (BMS) based on IoT in infrastructures of organizations such as BBVA or Ferrovial. This solution analyzes different parameters of the building such as energy consumption, demand areas, temperatures or the quality of the outside air to assess the overall efficiency of the building.
In addition, it has been commissioned to develop a 3.3 megawatt peak (MWp) photovoltaic self-consumption project for Grupo Pascual; another, in this case of 5.7 MWp, on the roofs of the company Plastic Omnium; or improving energy efficiency, reducing said consumption and optimizing production in companies such as Seat, Iveco or Central Lechera Asturiana. In total, Edison Next estimates, all these initiatives have prevented the emission of 42,000 tons of CO 2 into the atmosphere .
Together with the materialization of projects in pursuit of the ecological transition, the company advises companies and entities interested in undertaking a sustainable change in the best way together with savings in the costs of their operations. For example, in advice, it accompanies and helps its clients in these objectives.
And it achieves this through innovative service models such as the PPA (power purchase agreement), which minimizes investment risks due to technical problems and, instead, generates economic and energy savings from the moment they are put into operation. March.
